  for an oldie i'd pick audrey hepburn singing moon river ... mmnnnn, i never get tired of that.. currently i'm listening to norah jones an aweful lot.

  she is very easy on the ears and is my "audible-heaven" right now.. so who's voice makes you 'melt' ?

  I'm a real soft lad cos songs really affect me especially if the singer has a great voice.

  Many singers have already been mentioned - Tori Amos, Karen Carpenter, Eva Cassidy.

  • Rufus Wainright,
  • Aimee Mann (who always reminds me of Karen Carpenter. I think she has a similar meloncholy tone in her voice.

  I'm also hooked on Chutes too Narrow and Oh, Inverted World by The Shins at the mo' too. The singer has a great voice and they are two of the most perfectly crafted indie pop albums I've heard in a long time. Go listen to them they're great!

  How do you amuse yourself during the daily commute?

  i commute to and from work between 2 and 4 hours every day.

  I used to have a two mile walk to work mostly through parks. I sometimes took a minidisc along to listen to and it was great. In fact I enjoyed it so much I usually kept on walking and skipped the work bit altogether. Maybe that's why I got the boot!

  it fulfills the need for a horroscope (sorta), although nobody is anxious to read the damn thing to see what the day is going to bring them.. but what about the year's text... what's the point of it?

  Did you know we don't have a Bible belt in Australia?

  No, you Aussies are too busy playing sports, surfing, drinking tinnies, having barbies, eating vegemite and doing numerous other cool things to be worried about boring stuff like the bible. Good on ya.

  Granted my total knowledge of the Aussie way of life comes from Home and Away but I assume it's pretty accurate. Maybe I'm a great galar for thinking it or maybe even a flamin' yahoo!

  It seems as if his brilliant memory was tied in to his synesthesia as mental pictures are by far the best memory aid. I once saw an excellent documentary on synesthesia and people's ability to taste sounds, see number lines or convert sound to colours. Apparently for years no-one believed it was true until fairly recently. The test was incredible simple too for people who had colour synesthesia and they were shown something like this picture -

  I think the best of people but the worst of situations. It's kind of a paradox I suppose as both are usually tied together. The most prominent thoughts of worst case scenarios are when the phone rings. I always think it's bad news and am reluctant to answer it and numerous thoughts go round my head as to who might be phoning and what terrible news they might have to tell. It's not because of that film The Ring either before anyone says it

  I'm not sure if it's all down to being a dub though. I've known some very optimistic witnesses through the years who always looked on the bright side of life da da... da da.. da da da da da. They were mostly deluded though. Maybe it's our somewhat jaded, pessimistic attitudes that causes us to question ideas and authority like the WBTS and the happy go lucky folks are still happily absorbing the Botchtower

  The Generation Game 10 years on - 1995

  it's been roughly ten years since the change in the understanding of the generation was printed in a november watchtower.. while i won't discuss here what everyone already knows about this change, and the effects it had on many people, questions have to be asked.. what happens next for the watchtower society?

  I think there are many, like my parents, who look to crumbs of comfort to re-inforce their belief in the time of the end. The war in Iraq, earthquake in Asia, rise in violent crime etc etc. Even though when these happenings are looked at statistically compared with history there's no real basis for the paranoia.

  The society seem to be very careful about not mentioning dates now, even 1914, and just keep hammering on about keeping vigilent in this time of the end to keep people in fear. I always think it's a clever trick of the society to turn the focus around on unfulfilled prophecies like 1925, 1976 etc and bamboozle dubs into thinking it was an apostate teaching instead of their own. The same might happen with 1914, 1919 and so on and in keeping with the societies record of altering past publications to fit new ideas new dubs in a few years will be none the wiser.

  When I left the org. I told my parents that the JW's wouldn't last another 50 years. I was maybe being generous with the timescale but I think my parents generation who still cling to a lot of the apocolyptic teachings of years ago have to pass on before a new more savvy generation realise what a crock of sherbert it all is.

  That was quite the most bizarre thing I've ever read. It reads like the author has copied snippets from Victorian era science journals and tried to string them together. The article goes into far more detail than is necassary to get the point across as well and the more mis-informed embroidery the writer put into it the further down ignorant street he got.

  It's funny how the WBTS still put in print that atoms are like mini solar systems like that Golden Age article stated years ago. Like you said cyborgvision they should leave the science to scientists and.. leave everything else to someone else too and just bog off.

  Thanks for posting your evolution installments. I've really enjoyed reading them as I only had a minor understanding of how evolution worked before. I always felt fossil records and missing links were sticking points but I see now how the science and ideas have changed.

  It seems there isn't full understanding of how evolution occurred but that the evidence for some kind of evolutionary process is overwhelming. I personally am really pleased about learning this stuff about evolution, it's much more exciting and interesting than the story of an ephemeral dude with a beard making everything.
